Ham Chowder

Ingredients for 5-7 Servings

  • bacon strips, cooked & chopped
  • Bacon grease, reserved from strips
  • 1
    medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup
    diced carrots
  • 3 tbsp
    all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups
    whole milk
  • 2 cups
    water
  • 3 cups
    cubed potatoes
  • 1 can (1525 ounces)
    whole kernel corn, drained
  • 2
    chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 3 cups
    shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 cups
    cooked ham, drained

Method

  1. Cook bacon according to package instructions, reserving the grease. Add grease, onions, and carrots to a pot, sauteing until tender.
  2. Add in flour, and mix until fully incorporated. Then, add in water and milk and stir to combine. Bring to a boil and add in potatoes, corn, pepper, and chicken bouillon cubes.
  3. Let the chowder simmer on medium-high heat for 15-20 minutes, or until thickened.
  4. Add in cubed ham, diced bacon, and shredded cheese and cook until the cheese is melted.
  5. Season more to taste, then serve hot.
